Solid coloured placemats

Description

Beautiful deeply coloured woven placemats from Gone Rural that would add perfection to any table.

These vibrant placemats speak for themselves.  Why not mix and match your choice of colour with some of our other coloured mats to achieve a unique colourful setting.

Technique of Production

The plaiting technique, used since Gone Rural’s inception, is used to create some our most popular pieces. It involves using a dyed fibre, such as lutindzi, which is braided into long strands. These plaits are then woven, coiled, shaped, and sewn together to create beautiful products such as our placemats.

Materials

Lutindzi – is sourced directly from the mountains of Swaziland. It is sustainably harvested by cutting above the root and is proven to be waterproof and stain-resistant due to its strong, waxy finish.

All our materials are dye using environmentally friendly German dyes.

Wipe with damp cloth, do NOT machine wash. Do NOT leave in direct sunlight.

Diameter: 28cm

How your purchase can make a difference

Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland) is one of the poorest countries in the world. Over 40% of its population live on less than US$ 1.25 per day. Because of unfavourable climate conditions and low agricultural productivity, poverty is widespread.

Fair-trade benefits to communities

Your purchase will help support Gone Rural’s boMake (translation: “women”), a dedicated not-for-profit organisation that supports communities in which their female artisans live.

boMake was founded by Gone Rural in 2006 and focuses on training, health and education, as well as women’s empowerment.
