5 ethical gifts ideas for Mother’s day

Make mum feel really special this Mother’s Day with wonderful ethical gifts she’ll love. From pampering gift sets that give her the spa experience at home to beautiful blooms and unique candles, or handmade jewellery to handwoven baskets, we’ve got lots of lovely gift ideas – all ethically sourced and fairly traded!

1. Have a look at our wonderful ethical gift range

Surely that is where we have to start?!

We have put together all the best gifts for her in one place. From plastic-free, vegan-friendly and recycled gifts to luxurious Fairtrade beauty products, your loved ones will be spoilt for choice. Great for ladies who love ethically sourced, sustainable materials and planet-friendly gifts.

2. Flowers

The staple of every special occasion – What says ‘thank you’ or ‘I love you’ quite like flowers? And what can brighten up any room with a single bouquet?

Unfortunately though, during the colder months, most of the flowers we buy in western countries come from half the world away. How else would it be possible to satisfy such a rise in demand for flowers in the middle of March?

But fear not!  There are some great sustainable options for buying flowers and bouquets. Among these, one of the best is to choose Fairtrade flowers.

Buying Fairtrade flowers is important, not just for our own wellbeing, but for the wellbeing of those who grow, harvest, pack and care for the flowers that brighten up our days and our lives. Read this article if you want to find out more.

They are also easy to find – many of the major supermarkets and online stockists offer Fairtrade flowers, so you can either pick up a bunch in person or get them delivered through the letterbox. Find them at: Aldi, Arena Flowers, Asda, M&S, Morrisons, Co-op, Lidl and Moonpig.

I always used to take my mum breakfast in bed with a rose or some flowers picked from the garden – and we have the perfect small vase for that!

3. Ethical Jewellery

Did you know that gold mining is one of the worst forms of child labour? Mining gold is dangerous and demanding and in non-Fairtrade small-scale gold mines, miners can work in hazardous conditions with little or no health and safety equipment.

Fair trade companies like Just trade collaborate with artisans around the world to create handmade jewellery and accessories ensuring that items are produced and made under fair trade conditions. Combining traditional craft skills and materials with expert knowledge of contemporary jewellery and accessories, they have developed ranges of unique, characterful pieces – From exquisite crocheted silverwork to beautifully carved tagua pendants.

Another favourite of ours is Daughters of the Ganges which has gorgeous earrings and necklaces made in India.

4. Say it with candles

Who doesn’t like candles? Whether you burn them or like to keep them they can make any room look or smell special.

We think our Swazi Candles make quite an impression – especially when lit as they gentle glow out through the patterns. If you are looking for scented candles then Dalit candles are one of the most ethical and environmentally friendly brands out there. They come in beautiful hand-thrown terracotta jars and smell divine!

We also have a new range of lovely scented candles made from organic Soy wax.

5. Pamper gifts

Pamper your mum from head to foot with a luxurious spa night at home. Perfect for relaxing and de-stressing in a warm, soothing bath by candlelight with our deliciously-scented oils.

This set includes a soapstone tea light holder, a range of Fairtrade-certified fragrant bath oils and a bath bomb. Why not buy one for yourself, too?

And if your mum has a sweet tooth or you are looking for ideas of the liquid variety then don’t forget to have a look at our blog for some more ideas!

Happy Mothers day!
